The
Velocette Owners Club of North America
is a not-for-profit organization with about 350 members in the USA,
Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the I.O.M. and the U.K.
All are dedicated to the somewhat fanciful proposition that Velocette
motorcycles ought to be kept running and in proper use. Some of us are
riders, some polishers; most are both!
Our club publication
"Fishtail West" is produced six times per year,
helping to keep us all informed about Velo happenings around North
America and the world.
On the West Coast,
we have three major events each year:
Spring Opener:
In late, May, the annual Spring Opener is held in the Santa Cruz Mountains
above Los Gatos. The Saturday event features a 100-mile reliability
trial via the famous Alice's Restaurant on Skyline Blvd., finished
off with
a big fajita stuffing contest and silly awards ceremony.
Annual Ride and
Rally:
In July or August (depending upon the year), the club holds a unique
annual event: A week-long ride of 1,200 - 1,500 miles through scenic
and winding roads followed by our Annual Rallye and Concours d'Oiligance.
Venues have included the Redwoods of Northern California and Oregon;
the High Sierras; Washington State and Mt. Rainier; Jasper & Banff;
Glacier Park; and Yellowstone Park.
Yes, Velocettes can and do make the distance, with 25- 40 Velos on
each event, accompanied by friends on lesser makes such as BMW, Guzzi,
BSA,
Norton, Triumph, Vincent, and H-D. It is not an uncommon sight to
see late-night wrenching by campfire light, but the old Velos (and
old Velo riders) make the distance!
Mello Velo Fello
Rally:
Each October we rendezvous in Ojai California for the Annual Mello
Velo Fello Rally. The event centers around a gathering of the Velo
faithful and BBQ feast on Saturday, followed by a Sunday ride north
out of Ojai up the winding climb of Highway 33.
